Best, worst of college football’s Week 11 and Week 12 ATS: A Blitz Podcast
John and Zach return to discuss the landscape altering Week 11 in college football and then move on to preview a big Week 12 in this week’s podcast.
College football’s Week 11 featured two undefeated vs. undefeated matchups and both games went in favor of the underdogs.
First, Minnesota proved its legitimacy as the Golden Gophers kept the boat rowing in a 31-26 win over Penn State in Minneapolis. Many questioned whether Minnesota’s offense could make plays against a stingy Penn State defense, but Gophers quarterback Tanner Morgan was ruthlessly efficient, throwing for 339 yards and three touchdowns while completing 18-of-20 passing.
Minnesota saw a sizable jump in the playoff rankings in the aftermath of the win, leaping from No. 17 all the way up to No. 8. There’s plenty more opportunities for Fleck’s crew to make statements, starting this week in Ames against Iowa.
In the afternoon, LSU finally got the Alabama monkey off of its back, exorcising eight years worth of demons in a thrilling 46-41 shootout win over the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. The Tigers are now the unquestioned No. 1 team in college football, and after eviscerating a Nick Saban defense, the Heisman Trophy is Joe Burrow’s to lose. LSU could likely now afford a loss and still make the playoff thanks to its resume.
It’s no doubt that John and Zach saw fit to name LSU and Minnesota as the biggest winners of the week, but which teams suffered the worst losses? What were the most surprising results of the week?
Our hosts tackle that in the first segment of this week’s Saturday Blitz Podcast.
With Week 11 giving us a paradigm shift, Week 12 could be more of the same with big matchups across college football that will not only impact the playoff race, but conference championship races as well.
After diving in to the biggest games of the week, John and Zach put on their best gambling hats and offer up their best guess at an upset pick of the week as well as the biggest locks of the week. Can the two read the Vegas tarot cards correctly, or will the house continue to do what it does?
