2. Minnesota (at Iowa)

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are having the equivalent of a “Cinderella Run” in the NCAA Basketball Tournament in this season of college football. They have yet to lose a game and beat their only ranked opponent, No. 4 Penn State, at home in Week 11.

However, let’s not forget about the Gophers’ first four weeks of the year. They played South Dakota State, Fresno State, Georgia Southern, and Purdue, and only won by a single score in each game. They only beat Fresno and Georgia Southern by a field goal.

The middle part of their season was against the very bottom of the Big Ten. Beating the Nittany Lions only sort of validates Minnesota as a legitimate contender. Who knows if this was simply a true upset in an otherwise very easy season for the Gophers?

Minnesota has hardly beaten anyone, but the significant win they do have, was at home. In Week 12, PJ Fleck’s squad must beat a good team, but this time, it’s on the road. Much like Iowa State, Iowa has three losses by a combined 14 points, all against good teams.

I truly would love to see Minnesota represent the Big Ten in the College Football Playoff. It would be a great change of uniform at the end of the season. Yet, I can’t see them walking out of Iowa City still undefeated.
