San Diego State fell out of the Group of Five race with a loss at home against Nevada. What else happened last week to shake up the Week 12 power rankings?

The FBS is now down to just seven one-loss teams after Week 11. San Diego State welcomed Nevada to SDCCU Stadium, expecting to lock up the MWC West race with several weeks left to go in the regular season. Instead, the Wolf Pack went to California and held the lead from the first score to the final whistle.

Rocky Long’s Aztecs aren’t out of the Mountain West race, by any means, as they still hold a one-game lead over Nevada and Hawaii and 1.5 games over Fresno State. After having a real chance to break out and seal up more than just conference standing, San Diego State collapsed out of the Group of Five race. Now they need several other one-loss contenders to take losses to have any chance at climbing back into that race.

There is no requirement that the College Football Playoff selection committee lean on winning percentage to declare their top Group of Five champion. The only prerequisite to get into the final discussion is to win a conference title. Beyond that, everything is at the subjective discretion of the committee.

We know that San Diego State will fall out of the Group of Five Power Rankings this week. Here is the latest pecking order for the Group of Five as we head into mid-November action in Week 12.
