1. D’Andre Swift provides critical balance to offense

Where the Auburn running game struggled to push through the line of scrimmage and get to the second level, Georgia’s running backs had no such issues. The team finished with 141 yards on the ground against the Tigers, as the backfield offered good balance for Fromm and the passing attack when the visitors had the football.

The key cog in that effort, as usual, was veteran back D’Andre Swift. Georgia’s feature back racked up 106 yards on 17 carries, as he singlehandedly outgained the entire Auburn rushing attack. Swift also caught two passes, but both were behind the line of scrimmage and he actually ended with negative-three receiving yards.

Even so, he still finished in triple digits for total yards from scrimmage. Swift showed why he is such a critical part of Georgia’s offensive game plan, and why they have had issues in the past when he has been sidelined. While he is not as heavily hyped as other backs around the country, Swift is among the most dependable ground-gainers in the FBS.

If Georgia is going to keep itself in the running for a College Football Playoff spot, they will do so by continuing to lean heavily on Swift’s contributions out of the backfield. The balance that he provides keeps Fromm from having to do too much with the football through the air, and allows the Bulldogs to control the pace of games.
