Boise State Football: 3 takeaways from MWC blowout of New Mexico
By Zach Bigalke
Boise State football stayed in control of its fortune in the Mountain West as it routed New Mexico in Week 12. What did we learn in the Broncos’ win?
On Saturday evening, Boise State turned to an untried hand to guide their offense. The gamble paid off, as the Broncos took down New Mexico 42-9 to stay atop the MWC Mountain standings and in the race for the Group of Five’s automatic berth in the Cotton Bowl.
Bryan Harsin’s crew looked like a well-oiled machine against a Lobos crew that remained winless in Mountain West play this season. Now 2-8 on the year, Bob Davie’s crew have no shot at a bowl game and are merely playing out the wire on a disappointing season in Albuquerque. With little hope of toppling the Boise State juggernaut, it was little surprise that the Lobos folded.
As a 26-point favorite at home, the Broncos easily covered the spread to make another strong statement for the selection committee. They will likely remain just behind the two American Athletic Conference division leaders when the next Top 25 is released on Tuesday evening.
Boise State wrapped up a perfect record at home in 2019. As they prepare to end the regular season on a road swing against Utah State and Colorado State, here are three things to take away from the Week 12 win over the Lobos.
