We’ve been talking about the Heisman race the entire college football season, and it’s time to crown a winner in LSU football’s Joe Burrow.

College football has given us so many amazing athletes in 2019, and the Heisman race has been a chance to highlight the best. We’ve had an interesting race all season. From Jonathan Taylor scoring eight touchdowns in his first two games to Jalen Hurts breaking Kyler Murray’s records to Tua Tagovailoa proving that he could somehow improve on last year’s season, the entire race has been fun to watch. Despite all these strong seasons, the man who will win the Heisman this season is clear. It’s Joe Burrow out of LSU, and it’s not even close.

Burrow checks every box. He’s a quarterback in a major conference. He’s on the best team in college football, and he’s the reason why they’re the best team. He’s got the motivation, the personality, and the Heisman moment against Alabama.

I wanted to wait a week to see how Burrow responded to the next challenge after the Bama game. After all, voters remember November. Maybe Jalen Hurts or even Tua could at least make this race competitive again. That was not the case in week 12. Tua’s devastating injury ended his season, and Hurts had too many mistakes against Baylor in the win. You can call the 25-point comeback a Heisman moment from him, but the deficit was because of his early turnovers. It was going to take perfection from Hurts to jump Burrow, and we did not get that on Saturday.

From Burrow‘s side, he just widened the gap. His turnovers hurt him, but he had five passing touchdowns and nearly 500 passing yards. I know it’s just Ole Miss, but he’s continuing to destroy his opponents every week. The only great defense he will face now is Georgia in the SEC Championship, and I think he will have the Heisman on lock before that game is even played.

I’ve tried to give every player the opportunity to win this Heisman in my rankings all season. I didn’t want to name a winner while there was still a chance for someone else to come back. That being said, this is Burrow’s Heisman. You can go ahead and write his name on the trophy. Congratulations to the man in Baton Rouge.
