3. Receiving corps stepped up without CeeDee Lamb

Before the game, all signs showed that star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was going to play Saturday night against the Bears. He was available to the media in the week before the game and he could be seen warming up with his headphones in before the game. He even had his shoulder pads on.

But when the game began, he was listed as inactive for a “medical reason.” Would the Sooners have enough firepower among its receivers to stretch out the Bears’ defense?

Turns out, yes. Eight different players finished with at least two catches, led by Lee Morris’ seven receptions for 86 yards. The senior from Allen, Tex. is normally overshadowed by playmakers like Lamb and Charleston Rambo, but he stepped up big on Saturday night when Hurts needed him. He nearly doubled his season reception total for 2019, as well.

The Sooners rushed for more than 200 yards, but the passing game was consequential, too — Hurts finished with 30-of-42 passing for 297 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.

Even fullback Brayden Willis, who has two career carries through two seasons, caught a touchdown reception to tie the game at 31-31 in the fourth quarter.
