Pac-12 Football Power Rankings, Week 13: Utah demands more respect
By Kyle Grondin
Stop if you’ve heard this before, USC has a great quarterback that could be a future number one pick. Kedon Slovis is that good, and so well polished, that you have to start considering him the top option for the 2022 NFL Draft at this point. A lot can happen between now and then, but here’s a quick comparison for the people at home.
Player A: 15 games, 65.2%, 3,280 yards, 8.3 YPA, 30 TDs, 4 INTs, 157.6 QBR
Player B: 10 games, 70.8%, 2,727 yards, 8.9 YPA, 24 TDs, 9 INTs 162.9 QBR
Player B is Kedon Slovis so far this season. Player A? Trevor Lawrence’s freshman year, where we were ready to anoint him the future top overall pick. Outside of interceptions, Slovis will blow those numbers out of the water, and has been just really impressive this season. USC is back in the playoff rankings and is waiting for a potential Utes slip up.
I talked about the Utes in the introduction, but their win over UCLA was just plain impressive. They held the Bruins to under 300 total yards of offense, had 536 of their own, and forced five turnovers and one defensive touchdown.
Tyler Huntley and Zack Moss proved how effective they are. Huntley only threw four incompletions, and Moss ran rampant on the Bruins defense. This team is peaking at the right time of the year.
Despite everything I just said about the Utes, and they are very good, the Ducks stay at number one. Oregon delivered a complete performance, nearly doubling the yardage total of Arizona, and the result was never in doubt.
No matter who you like between Oregon and Utah, it’s clear that this game just needs to happen. Two one-loss teams in the Pac-12 title games, with a playoff spot on the line, It will be the biggest game for Pac-12 football since Oregon played Stanford in 2010. Both teams just have to do their job from here on out.
