It’s been an up-and-down season for Iowa State football but the Cyclones could get a much-needed break with Kansas coming to town.

If you looked at Iowa State’s schedule, you’d probably be shocked if they were bowl eligible by this point in the season, but Matt Campbell is one heck of a coach and the Cyclones have plenty of talent to compete in the Big 12.

Unfortunately, the Cyclones are a handful of plays away from being either 9-1 or 10-0 at this point in the year with all four of their losses by a combined 11 points. They nearly beat a ranked Iowa team, lost by two points at Baylor, blew a major opportunity at home against Oklahoma State, losing by seven, and then losing by just one at Oklahoma.

This Iowa State team could have had a special season, but a few breaks didn’t go their way and they’re happy to just be bowl eligible with a chance to improve on their postseason outlook in the final two weeks. That starts on Saturday afternoon when Kansas comes to town.

Let’s get bold ahead of this Week 13 matchup in the Big 12.

3. Breece Hall hits 150 yards

Remember when Iowa State had no run game to speak of heading into the month of September? There were a few guys jockeying for position atop the depth chart, but no one stood out. And then Breece Hall stepped up, like I guessed he would.

As a recruit, Hall was one of my favorite signees in Iowa State’s 2019 class and I had a feeling he was going to be special. That’s why I was surprised he was quiet through the first month, but you know freshmen take time to adjust and all that coach speak.

Hall has since taken over in the backfield and has 686 yards and seven touchdowns on 5.6 yards per carry this season, to go along with four 100-yard games in the past five. Expect him to add another and to approach his career-high of 183 which he posted against Texas Tech. Kansas will have a difficult time trying to slow him down all afternoon.
