Baylor football hosted the Texas Longhorns in a pivotal Big 12 matchup. What’d we learn from the Bears’ statement win over Tom Herman’s team?

The Baylor Bears dominated the Texas Longhorns 24-10 at McLane Stadium in Waco en route to a 10-win season.

The Bears’ defense did an outstanding job of limiting all-everything Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger to under 200 yards passing and 100 yards rushing. Texas could do very little against the Bears’ defense on the ground or through the air. The Longhorns were dominated along the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

The Longhorns kept it close in the first half, but their offense couldn’t stay on the field, and their defense eventually wore down. Here are three more takeaways from the game:

3. Baylor’s defense looked dominant

The Texas Longhorns were coming into this game short handed offensively. Wide receiver Collin Johnson and running backs Derrian Brown and Jarrett Smith were out for the game — Brown and Smith have been out for most of the year. Texas is so depleted at running back that Roschon Johnson, recruited as a quarterback, has been converted into a running back to fill the depth void at the position.

The Baylor Bears took full advantage of this.

Although the Longhorns had 191 yards rushing, 68 of those yards came on one play by running back Keaontay Ingram. The Longhorns simply could not move the ball at all against Baylor’s dominant defense.

No one was limited more by this defense than Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger. He couldn’t run past the speed of the Baylor defense, or have enough time to throw downfield against Baylor’s secondary.
