2. Iowa State’s defense struggled late
Through the first half, Iowa State had allowed just nine points to the Jayhawks and it looked like the defense was going to put them away, keeping them out of the end zone.
Then the second half started. Kansas put up 15 points in the third quarter alone and then added another touchdown in the fourth to finish with a 31-point performance on the road against a tough Iowa State team. They have proven before that they can put up some points (just ask Texas), but Iowa State’s defense was caught off guard a bit.
Pooka Williams Jr. picked up 154 yards on just 19 carries and was chunking the Cyclones every time he touched the ball. The Jayhawks had just 32 carries as a team and rushed for over 160 yards, proving that the Iowa State defense had a tough day.
On top of that, Carter Stanley’s completion percentage may not have been all that great, completing 23-of-34, but he had 328 yards and three touchdowns.
The Iowa State defense had a tough time shutting the door on the Jayhawks.
