1. Future of Iowa State football is bright

If you’re Matt Campbell and you get a ton of phone calls this offseason for other Power Five head coaching jobs, you’d have to think long and hard. While some of those jobs might be appealing, what he has in Ames might surpass anything that will come open.

Iowa State isn’t exactly known as a football power but the Cyclones have been relevant ever since Campbell took over, and that’s not a coincidence. The head coach has recruited well and has gotten his guys in place and knows what it takes to beat the best teams in the Big 12 and make some noise in the standings.

To start, Brock Purdy is just a sophomore and looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He had another big day against Kansas with 372 yards and four touchdowns. Then you have guys like sophomore tight end Charlie Kolar, freshman running back Breece Hall and that’s just on the offensive side of the ball.

The defense struggled a bit today, but there are some solid young pieces and the core of this team is impressive. The future is bright in Ames and that should keep Campbell in place.
