USC Football: 3 takeaways from 2019 Victory Bell win over UCLA
By Zach Bigalke
USC football took back the Victory Bell in a rivalry win over UCLA at the Coliseum. What did we learn about USC in their takedown of the Bruins?
Rivalry games always have a risk fo turning sideways for a favorite. As they took the field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon for the Victory Bell battle against UCLA, the No. 23 USC Trojans were a 13.5-point favorite trying not to falter against a rival to whom they lost the trophy last season.
The Trojans went to the locker room with a 24-14 lead at the half, and allowed that margin to hold throughout the rest of the contest. As a result of the 52-35 finish, the Victory Bell will stay at the Coliseum to be painted Trojans cardinal for the next year.
USC closed out the regular season with a final statement that gave them eight victories and will likely keep them somewhere in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s rankings after they entered Week 13 as the second-best team with four losses.
The New Year’s Six is out of reach for the Trojans, but with their 12 games all in the books they can now kick back over Thanksgiving weekend and watch what else happens around the country and how it will impact their postseason position. Here are three things to take away from the Victory Bell triumph over the Bruins on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.
