After a two-game suspension, Ohio State football’s Chase Young still has a chance to win the Heisman Trophy, and he proved why against Penn State.

This Heisman race appeared to be wrapped up for Joe Burrow. He is most definitely the frontrunner still, but one man from Ohio State football is still in the race, and it’s not who you would expect going into this week.

Many thought Justin Fields was one of the only players with a chance to catch up to Burrow, with this being his potential Heisman moment. He played relatively well, but his turnovers kept him from having the Heisman moment he desperately needed. He was not the best player on the field this Saturday, and his teammate stole the spotlight.

It’s about time we start talking about Chase Young as a true Heisman contender. He was in the discussion early in the year, and I almost had him as a frontrunner. Once he was suspended for NCAA violations, I admittedly thought he eliminated himself from the race. I even thought that Burrow wrote his name in ink on this year’s Heisman Trophy. Burrow will probably still win, but I was simply wrong on this race being over.

Chase Young had three sacks against Penn State, his toughest challenge yet this season. He simply dominated the defensive side of the football, like he does every single time he steps onto the field. The only thing that can stop him is the NCAA.

Determining who should win the Heisman depends on your opinion of criteria. If you want to just take the easy route and give it to the best player on the best team, you would likely give it to Burrow (although I believe Ohio State is a better team). If you want to give it to the best quarterback, send it to Baton Rouge. However, if you want to give it to the best player in college football, the answer is obvious. At the end of the day, Chase Young deserves the Heisman Trophy. He will have to root for chaos to win it, but he deserves the votes.

I wouldn’t place my money on Chase Young to win the Heisman, but that’s where I would likely vote at this point in the season.
