Ole Miss Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Mississippi State in 2019 Egg Bowl
1. Ole Miss keeps Mississippi State from bowl berth
Matt Luke has to be disappointed that his Rebels have no shot at a bowl berth this season, even with young promising players leading the way, but that’s exactly what Ole Miss is: young.
The Rebels will undoubtedly improve over the coming seasons, especially when the quarterback play gets more consistent but Thursday’s game against Mississippi State is not only big for in-state recruiting battles as well as a final record, it’s important for momentum heading into 2020.
Mississippi State needs this win. The Joe Moorhead-led Bulldogs are one win shy of a bowl berth and losing to a mediocre Ole Miss team at home would all but crush the second-year coach.
Heck, this could be the end of the Moorhead era, and I’m predicting it will be with the loss to the Rebels at Davis Wade.
The fit for Moorhead was already questionable, but after Ole Miss marches into Starkville and keeps Mississippi State from earning a bowl berth on its own field, fans will begin to truly doubt him — more so than they already have. That could lead to him taking a different job (maybe Rutgers?).
Ole Miss will do just enough to pull off the upset and keep Mississippi State from a bowl game, and improve on the all-time lead in the Egg Bowl series.
