Texas football pulled away late as they defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders at home. Here are three takeaways from the in-state rivalry win.

The Texas Longhorns rally from an early 14-0 deficit to dominate the Texas Tech Red Raiders 49-24. This win guarantees the Longhorns won’t have to win their bowl game to ensure they have a winning season.

With the win, Texas ends their regular season 7-5. This win is somewhat a consolation to what can only be described as a disappointing season.

Injuries tell much of narrative for the Longhorns this year especially at running back. One of those injury replacements, converted quarterback Roschon Johnson had over 100 yards in this game. The defense found their way giving up only three points in the second half and shut out the Red Raiders in the fourth quarter on their way to the victory.

Here are three more takeaways.

3. Texas found its defense in the second half

The Longhorns were in a tight one for a half, and then Texas made the necessary adjustments and gave up only three points in the second half.

After Texas Tech kicked a field goal in the third quarter, the Red Raiders next three possessions were downs, punt, fumble. Texas did two things well in the second half.

First, the Longhorns best defense was their offense. They went ground and pound in the second half and shortened the game in the second half. Second, they ruled the line of scrimmage. Texas Tech couldn’t move the Longhorns defensive line or handle the blitz packages thrown out by Texas defensive coordinator Todd Orlando.
