Baylor football dominated Kansas to close out the season with 11 wins and put itself in a position to make a New Year’s Six bowl.

Can we stop overlooking the Baylor Bears in the College Football Playoff race? After beating Kansas black and blue on Saturday, 61-6, it’s time to realistically tab the Bears as a playoff threat.

No, Kansas isn’t going to be considered a “big” win, but beating any team by over 50 helps the outlook with the playoff committee.

What’d we learn from Baylor’s blowout win over Kansas?

3. Defense steps up

While it was just Kansas and the Jayhawks don’t exactly have an elite offense, going on the road and shutting down a team that has put up points against teams like Texas, Texas Tech and Iowa State is what you’d expect from a top contender from the Big 12.

Even when the Jayhawks scored six points after halftime in the third quarter, the Bears shut them down from then on out. They didn’t stand a chance against Baylor’s stingy defense, scoring just six points with just over 260 total yards on the day. This isn’t the type of play Les Miles is used to, but it’s clear his program has a long way to go.

Kansas did the most damage on the ground, but even that wasn’t enough to truly make the Bears sweat.

Also, the Bears picked the Jayhawks off four times and made life miserable for both Kansas quarterbacks. This is a far cry from the Baylor defenses we’re used to.
