2. Will D’Andre Swift be okay for the SEC championship?

When D’Andre Swift fumbled the ball for the second time in the third quarter, the play might have proved far more costly than just the turnover. Swift writhed on the ground for a while, and when he got up on his feet he walked to the sideline clutching his upper body. It turned out that the running back suffered an injury to his left shoulder.

At that point of the game, Swift had already belted out 73 yards on 10 carries. As the most dangerous skill player on the field for the Bulldogs, Georgia Tech was forced to account for him on basically every offensive snap by the visitors. When he left the game, though, Georgia was forced to rethink their offensive strategy in a way that proved beneficial.

Georgia was up 24-7 when Swift fumbled away the ball and left the game. They scored touchdowns on each of their next three possessions, even as they started to pull starters from throughout the offense. Jake Fromm was forced to pick up his game, as he finished with 254 yards and four touchdowns despite completing only 14 of his 29 passing attempts.

On one hand, Georgia showed they can survive the loss of a talent like Swift against the likes of a sub-.500 ACC opponent. When they face LSU next weekend at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, however, they will need Swift back on the field and healthy to have a shot of pulling off the upset of the unbeaten Tigers.
