Indiana Football: 3 takeaways from overtime win over Purdue in Week 14
By Dante Pryor
Indiana football visited Purdue for the 95th installment of the annual “Old Oaken Bucket” game in West Lafayette. Here’s what we learned.
It took overtime to decide the 95th rendition of the “Old Oaken Bucket” game between the Purdue Boilermakers and the Indiana Hoosiers, 44-41.
Indiana looked like they were going to run away with this one early, but the Boilermakers have played hard all season long, and today was no different. The Hoosiers build a 28-10 lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Boilermakers came all the way back and eventually tied the game at 31 and sent it into overtime.
Both Purdue and Indiana traded touchdowns in the first overtime, but the Boilers could only muster a field goal. Indiana got the ball and won on a Peyton Ramsey touchdown.
Here are three more takeaways from the game.
3. There’s been no quit in Purdue
Purdue had every reason to pack it in this game. It would have been simple to say, “This isn’t our day or season. Maybe next year.”
2Well, Purdue hasn’t said those words all season, so you know they wouldn’t say it in this game. The Boilermakers fought back, and gave themselves a chance to win in overtime, but came up short.
This game and their season is a testament to the culture Jeff Brohm and his staff have brought to West Lafayette. Though Purdue won’t go bowling this postseason, they can take heart in how they played with adversity this season.
