Since the college football season has ended for a number of major programs, there are coaching changes that will follow. Who has been let go so far?

The day after the final Saturday of the regular season is known as “Black Sunday” — and for good reason. No, it’s not because of holiday shopping, but rather because coaches who fell short of expectations for too long are usually given pink slips and let go.

This season was no different as there were some big names let go from programs that could be perennial contenders with the right direction.

So which jobs have opened up as of ‘Black Sunday’?

  • Herm Edwards decided to make some much-needed changes to his Arizona State offensive staff which held his team back from big things this season.
  • Boston College decided to move on from Steve Addazio after he went 44-44 in seven seasons with the program. He was too consistently average, apparently.
  • After a horrid season on the defensive side of the ball in Austin, Tom Herman decided to make some changes.
  • Barry Odom was fired at Missouri after four years and it was met with plenty of mixed reactions. Players and some fans were not happy with the news after he turned the program back into a win and even got Missouri to a bowl game this year.
  • Many South Carolina fans wanted Will Muschamp gone, but he changed up his staff in order to get another chance in 2020.
  • Charlie Strong may be wondering why he ever left Louisville as his rocky road has now gotten him fired at South Florida.
  • In hiring news, Rutgers seems to have made a splash, reportedly bringing Greg Schiano back.
  • Chris Petersen has stepped down as head coach at Washington and Jimmy Lake has been named his replacement.
  • Colorado State and head coach Mike Bobo parted ways.

  • Florida State made one of the best hires you’ll see this offseason, bringing Memphis’ Mike Norvell on board.
  • Missouri decides to hire Eli Drinkwitz of App State after he went 12-1 with the Mountaineers in his first season since Scott Satterfield left.
  • Arkansas hires Georgia offensive line coach Sam Pittman.
  • Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott was named head coach at USF, dispelling all of the Willie Taggart rumors.
  • Speaking of Taggart, he was hired by FAU to replace Kiffin.
  • Some Colorado State fans weren’t too happy, but Addazio was hired by the Rams to replace Mike Bobo.
  • Boston College made one of the better hires of the year, making Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley head coach.

  • Mike Bobo became the offensive coordinator at South Carolina after parting ways with Colorado State.
  • Ricky Rahne leaves Penn State’s offensive coordinator position to become Old Dominion’s next head coach
  • After parting ways with Arkansas, Chad Morris heads to another SEC school — Auburn — as offensive coordinator.
  • Brian Kelly shocked just about everyone when he parted ways with offensive coordinator Chip Long after a solid season.
  • Losing Mike Norvell hurt, but Memphis promoted Ryan Silverfield to head coach — a popular move.
  • Fresno State hired Indiana offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer as new head coach.
  • Minnesota offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca takes the same job at Penn State.
  • Tom Herman hires away Mike Yurcich from Ohio State to be his new offensive coordinator.
  • Purdue makes a solid hire at defensive coordinator in Louisiana Tech’s Bob Diaco. This is a unit that struggled mightily in 2019 for the Boilermakers.
  • Lane Kiffin adds to his staff in Oxford with some former Big Ten names.
  • Greg Schiano’s first big hire back at Rutgers is Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson as his own OC.
  • After parting with Dan Enos, Miami hired Rhett Lashlee as offensive coordinator from SMU.
  • Matt Rhule departs from Baylor after bringing the Bears back to relevance and he’s headed to the NFL with the Panthers.
