Ole Miss football fired Matt Luke after three seasons, in which the Rebels regressed each year. Here are the top three candidates to replace Luke.
After a devastating Egg Bowl loss, Ole Miss is going in a new direction at head coach. Reports are surfacing on Matt Luke being fired, just three years after taking over as interim head coach after Hugh Freeze was unceremoniously fired by the Rebels.
This comes as no surprise, as Luke was only 15-21 in three seasons at Ole Miss, and the Rebels regressed in three consecutive seasons with him at the helm. The icing on the cake was the loss to Mississippi State, where an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by Elijah Moore caused a missed extra point, and a 21-20 rivalry game loss.
While it was clear Luke was in over his head, there’s no doubt that this is still a desirable job in college football, getting a chance to play in the SEC. The SEC West is a gauntlet of a schedule, but Athlon Sports recently rated Ole Miss as one of the top 30 jobs in all of college football, and the Rebels will still have plenty of options as a head coach options begin to form.
Here are the top three candidates to take over at Ole Miss next season.
