This is a one-man list for a simple reason: this is a lateral, at best, move for every other sitting Power Five head coach. Matt Campbell, James Franklin or any other sitting Power Five coach looking to move wouldn’t take this job. In many ways this is a lateral move for Moorhead as well, but he’s a Northeastern guy.

There are reports Mississippi State wants Moorhead to return next season on the heels of their Egg Bowl victory, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he wants to come back. With Rutgers and Greg Schiano reaching an agreement, this is the next best option for Moorhead unless Franklin goes to USC and Penn State opens up.

This isn’t to say that Moorhead doesn’t try to make it work in Starkville until an elite job opens, much like his predecessor Dan Mullen did, however, he is a Yankee through and through. He’s from Pittsburgh, played at Fordham (in New York), and was the offensive coordinator at Penn State before going to Starkville.

Taking the job at Boston College would be a surprise, but not a shock if he went that route.
