4. Georgia (11-1)

Sat in behind the three undefeated teams are a slew of 11-1 teams and the debate of what constitutes a “quality loss”. Georgia started the week as the No. 4 ranked team, and the Week 14 results don’t really suggest any movement here.

The Bulldogs turned over local rivals, Georgia Tech, in a bad tempted rivalry game. The score line (52-7) and the performance may not be the most important takeaway from the game. After an all-out fist fight ended with him slinging a player in to a wall, Georgia wide receiver George Pickens will miss the first half of the SEC Championship Game with LSU.

That game could mean more than all the others that have come before. Georgia will now be without two of their most productive players for at least half of the game.

If they can beat LSU, then they’re in.

Lose, and it’s hard to make a case for a two loss SEC team that haven’t exactly been convincing making it in over a team like Utah, or Oklahoma, or even Baylor.

One Week 14 result may play into the Bulldogs favor. Does Auburn beating Alabama in the Iron Bowl on Saturday night make Georgia’s win over the Tigers seem more impressive?

The Auburn win is one of three ranked victories on Georgia’s resume. This will surely play a part in the committee’s decision. As will the Bulldog’s having one of the best defensive units in the nation.

For now, they’ve got the final seat at the College Football Playoff table. However, the Sooners, Utes and Bears are biting at their heels.

Next Sunday, we’ll know for sure which four teams will battle it out for national championship glory.
