2. Bears’ defense shuts down second consecutive opponent

For the second consecutive game since the OU meltdown, the Bears were as stingy as you could be defensively.

Against Kansas, Baylor allowed only 258 yards of total offense and forced six turnovers, including four interceptions by the Jayhawks’ two quarterbacks. The Bears held Kansas starting quarterback Carter Stanley to 13-of-26 passing for zero touchdowns and three interceptions.

Against Texas in Week 13’s 24-10 victory, the Longhorns had scored only three points until a final, meaningless drive capped the game with a UT touchdown.

After halftime of the Week 12 loss to OU, Baylor’s defense surrendered 351 yards on OU’s five drives, all of which consisted of at least nine plays. The Sooners controlled the clock, set the tone at the line of scrimmage, and created space for quarterback Jalen Hurts to make big play after big play.

More than anything else, you can bet that Baylor’s defensive unit was out to silence its critics in the team’s recent victories against Texas and Kansas. Next up is a chance for redemption against the same OU team in this Saturday’s Big 12 title game.
