The college football regular season concluded with a bang on Saturday with several landscape-changing upsets. Let’s recap the best ones from Week 14.

Week 14, the final weekend of regular season college football action for 2019, did not disappoint. For what promised to be some of the best post-Thanksgiving action since turkey casserole and mashed potato waffles, two top 10 teams fell and thus saw the end of their national title dreams.

While it was hard to top the defeats of No. 5 Alabama and No. 8 Minnesota, several other rivalry games had consequential outcomes.

No. 4 Georgia suffered several key injuries and an ejection while thrashing its in-state rival, Georgia Tech. Virginia ended 15 years of futility against No. 24 Virginia Tech, pulling off a 39-30 victory. Mississippi State bested Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl on Thursday night after an obscene touchdown celebration penalized the Rebels, only to result in a missed extra point in a 21-20 loss.

For some programs, a season of failure and disappointment can be atoned for by a season-ending win over your biggest rival. In some cases, it can save a coach’s job. In others, it could even result in soul-searching (read: firings) for the higher-rated opponent.

Teams like Northwestern and South Alabama, too, earned their first conference wins of the season at the expense of bowl-bound teams.

Let’s recap the best college football upsets of Week 14.
