3. Vanderbilt

There were whispers of a regime change in Nashville, but athletic director Malcolm Turner said emphatically that Derek Mason will return next season. They lose Riley Neal and — much like Michigan State — Feleipe Franks is more talented than any quarterback the Commodores have on their roster.

The Commodores have a couple of three-stars in redshirt junior Deuce Wallace and true sophomore Allan Walters but neither quarterback has Franks’ measurables. The Commodores also have Mo Hasan, but he was never really supposed to play quarterback — they were trying Hasan at wide out this spring.

If Franks went to Vanderbilt, there’s a pretty good chance he’d start. Vanderbilt didn’t have the greatest success with senior transfer Neal this season, so Vanderbilt might want to develop their own QB1 and not take on another transfer.

Franks might have his doubts about Vanderbilt’s ability to help him develop as a quarterback. He might doubt his ability to win games based on their tough season last year. Then there’s the matter of Franks’ ability to qualify academically as well.
