Welcome to the watch. As championship weekend dawns, we choose our Group of Five representative for the Cotton Bowl. Here are the rankings.

This is a very special edition of the New Year’s Six watch for two reasons.

First, it’s the last watch of the season. We’ll know who’s in from the Group of Five during the next selection show. Second, we are expanding the scope and view of the last four teams we have left in the watch and gauge their probability to get into the Cotton Bowl this season as the Group of Five representative.

In our last watch, we’ll look at each team’s record, their best wins, and preview their championship game.

This season, it’s seems as if it’s more difficult for the Committee to chose their Group of Five representative than the top four. Putting them on the balance, any four of their top six wouldn’t be a huge mistake especially if either Ohio State or LSU lose their conference championship games.

The Group of Five, however, won’t be as easy. Each of the top four in the Group of Five has a compelling case. Appalachian State is the only team of the four with two Power Five wins. Boise arguably has the best Power Five win. Both Memphis and Cincinnati can lay claim to the best conference schedule. So what can each team do help their respective resumes? Win.

New Year’s is coming.
