AAC Championship 2019: 3 takeaways from Memphis’ win over Cincinnati

1. Mike Norvell earned a Power Five job

Mike Norvell was right to dodge the question by Tom Luginbill after the game. It really is about those young people playing the game. However, according to reports by Mark Schlabach and Adam Rittenberg, Norvell will be introduced as the new head coach of the Florida State Seminoles on Sunday.

To say he’s earned it is an understatement. He’s 11-1 this season with an AAC title and a  37-15 record during his tenure at Memphis. Florida State did a fantastic job hiring a head coach.

So what’s next for the Memphis Tigers program? Well, they were the highest-ranked Group of Five team in the College Football Playoff Top 25. Although they played a close game, and Boise State blew out Hawaii the Tigers have the superior resume. The Tigers have a Power Five win, and they’ve defeated two ranked teams this season — one of those teams twice.

In addition, the Tigers defeated seven bowl eligible teams this season. Can you say “Jerry’s World?”
