2. The perfect kicker

It’s abnormal to be bringing up a kicker during the takeaways from a Power Five conference championship game. However, what Gabe Brkic has done this season is absolutely incredible. NFL kickers, as a collective group, can’t go a single weekend without missing an extra point. But somehow, in his first year as the starting kicker for Oklahoma, Brkic has gone the entire year without missing a field goal or an extra point.

As a sophomore playing on the biggest stage, it’s rare to have the consistency to be 47-for-47 on extra points and 16-for-16 on field goals. Additionally, only four of those field goals were inside of 30 yards, showing Brkic’s ability to make kicks from distance.

NFL kickers haven’t been great lately. But, college kickers are consistently bad. Ask any Alabama fan. It’s just the nature of the position. Kicking is hard. And going from kicking in front of a couple of hundred people in high school to in front of the entire nation is a huge jump.

Gabe Brkic hasn’t wavered in the spotlight, which has been extremely valuable for the Sooners. Brkic made all three of his field goal attempts in this Big 12 Championship Game and remains perfect.
