3. Jaylon Henderson stood tall at quarterback

It has been a weird season at quarterback for Boise State. Entering the year, it seemed as though Hank Bachmeier was going to keep up the tradition of starting Broncos quarterbacks young and letting them get multiple seasons of experience leading the offense. That is how it worked with luminaries like Kellen Moore and Brett Rypien, and at the start of the season it seemed to be going perfectly for the highly-rated Bachmeier.

Then a hip injury sidelined the youngster, opening the door for Chase Cord to take over the offense. Cord had some solid moments, but eventually he yielded the position under center to the more veteran Jaylon Henderson.

Henderson, originally a UTSA recruit, left the Roadrunners after his redshirt freshman season and spent a year in junior college before finding himself at Boise State. He has spent the past few years buried on the depth chart, but once presented with an opportunity Henderson has seized his moment. Boise State has a real shot to go to their first major bowl since 2014 as a result.

Henderson finished the game 20-of-29 for 212 yards and two touchdowns through the air. The quarterback added 51 yards and a touchdown on the ground, keeping the Hawaii defense honest with both his arm and his legs. At a critical position that has experienced a lot of turnover for the Broncos, Henderson proved a steadying influence that allowed the Broncos to reclaim the Mountain West title.
