4. Lopsided win

The LSU Tigers got off to an early lead, marching right down field and scoring on their first possession of the game. And, this was just the beginning of Georgia’s defensive woes. LSU was scoring touchdowns while Georgia was kicking field goals. However, the Bulldogs were still relatively in the game at halftime, trailing 17-3.

Coming out in the second half, it was more of the same. However, the Bulldogs continued to be hurt by multiple injuries on key offensive and defensive players. Because Georgia was not at full strength, including quarterback Jake Fromm, who was playing with a hurt ankle, the Tigers were able to toss them around pretty easily.

LSU scored 17 more points in the third quarter, giving them a commanding lead heading into the fourth, 34-3.

Georgia battled back slightly in the middle of the fourth, but it was clear that LSU was playing safely. In the end, the scoreboard read 37-10 in favor of the Tigers.

Was it enough to earn the No. 1 ranking?
