Who will make the College Football Playoff now that the dust has settled on championship weekend? Here are our Top 25 projections before Selection Sunday.

Championship weekend rarely plays out entirely to chalk. With College Football Playoff spots on the line in addition to New Year’s Six invitations, league crowns, and bragging rights, there was a lot at stake for teams. Some lived up to the pressure, while others stumbled at the final hurdle.

The craziness started immediately, as the Pac-12 hosted their championship game at Levi’s Stadium on Friday night before everyone else plays out their title tilts. Oregon came in ranked No. 13 and a 6.5-point underdog against a No. 5 Utah team that boasted one fewer loss on their resume.

That didn’t matter on a rainy evening in Santa Clara, as the Ducks put on pressure early and fended off a second-half challenge by Utah to run away with a 37-15 victory. With the defeat, any shot at the College Football Playoff evaporated for the Utes and for the Pac-12.

That opened the door for an exciting Championship Saturday as the other nine FBS conferences determined their top dog. It took until the late games, but we nearly saw one major upset that will shake up the final College Football Playoff rankings even further. Ohio State eventually prevailed after falling behind 21-7 in the first half of the Big Ten championship game against Wisconsin, but Ryan Day’s Buckeyes awakened in the second half to remain undefeated.

Ultimately, then, the final weekend went largely with the chalk. How will that impact the final rankings as teams jockey for bowl position?
