3. Quarterback battle

The best quarterback of the 2019 season has been Joe Burrow. From setting conference and school records, to leading LSU to an undefeated season, an SEC title and the number one seed in the College Football Playoff, the Ohio State transfer has been at the top all season long.

Burrow’s success rolled over from last year and has shot him up NFL draft boards, having many thinking he’ll be the first player taken in 2020.

Jalen Hurts’ journey and college football career has been a roller coaster: from starting in a national championship as a freshman, to being benched in the national championship as a sophomore, to winning the SEC title as a junior in a relief effort, to finishing his career at another school but in a familiar place as a senior. Hurts has a chance to be the first and only quarterback (so far) to make the National Championship in four straight seasons.

While their stories are different, they carry some of the same similarities. Transfer quarterbacks playing with a chip on their shoulders, at two historic football programs, trying to provide their school with their first national title since 2007 (LSU) and 2000 (Oklahoma). Both, Burrow and Hurts, are playing in what could be their final game of their college careers. Their careers can never be diminished but going out a national champion will turn them into legends.
