The Clemson Tigers take on Ohio State football in the Fiesta Bowl. Why should you watch this battle for a place in the National Championship?

For the second time in its history, the Fiesta Bowl will play host to the College Football Playoff semifinal. As Clemson and Ohio State get set for a battle in the desert, will history repeat itself in this clash of the titans?

On December 31, 2016, the Tigers and the Buckeyes went in to battle at the Fiesta Bowl looking to secure a place in the national championship. On that night in Glendale, Arizona, Deshaun Watson led Clemson to a brutal 31-0 mauling of Ohio State, only the second time the Buckeyes had been shut out in a bowl game.

Can we expect the same from Trevor Lawrence and Co. this year?

Aside from a close win over North Carolina, Clemson have swept all comers this season. Since that game, Trevor Lawrence has been in Heisman form. However, the Tigers will feel they have something to prove, having had their playoff eligibility questioned all season. They start as a slight underdog as per ESPN’s Football Power Index.

As for the Ohio State Buckeyes, they probably feel like they should be playing in the Peach Bowl as the number one team in the nation. A close win over the Wisconsin Badgers in the BIG Ten Championship Game wasn’t enough for them to hold off a surging LSU team in the race for the number one ranking.

This year’s Fiesta Bowl is set to be an instant classic. It’s a clash between two unbeaten teams, with a place in the National Championship on the line.
