Navy football fell behind early but put together a big run to end the game with a win. Here are three takeaways from the 120th Army-Navy game.

While in the Navy locker room, President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing service academy athletes to forgo their armed service and play professional sports. While this was a fantastic gesture, this game is never about watching future NFL players; this game is about perspective.

Of all the football games one can watch, this game puts football in its proper place. Football is about passion, tension and teamwork. It is still, however, just a game. Football isn’t war and it isn’t battle; football is a game and Army-Navy puts this in perspective.

This is why we love this game so much. All of those young men will go pro in something else, and we all know what that is: the service of our country. This is the game where we watch young men play because they love the game and respect their opponent. There’s a purity to this game we don’t see elsewhere in big time college football.

The game on Saturday afternoon the Naval Academy broke a three game losing streak to the Black Knights with a 31-7 romp. The Midshipmen went old school in this game with only one pass — not by the quarterback — in this game and 55 rushes. This also brings the Commander-in-Chief Trophy to Annapolis.

Here are three more takeaways from Saturday’s game.
