Ranking the 5 most watchable college football bowl games of 2019
1. Sugar Bowl: Georgia vs. Baylor
The Sugar Bowl is the second oldest of all the College Football Bowl games. It has a rich and deep history. The Georgia Bulldogs have a history with the Sugar Bowl too, having played in the game 10 times.
They may have not played in as many as the Bulldogs, but the Baylor Bears also have the Sugar Bowl entwined in their history. The last time they played in the game, they defeated number two ranked Tennessee 13-7.
Unlike a number of the 39 bowl games, the two participants also have history with each other. The Sugar Bowl will see Baylor and Georgia go head to head four times. The Bears have never won.
Can the fifth time be the charm for Baylor?
The previous four games have all been tight affairs. Georgia’s biggest win is 15-3. You can expect this game to be a tight close fought affair.
Both teams have excelled on defense, surprisingly for a Big 12 team like Baylor.
Georgia have the fourth-ranked total defense. They’ll need to be on form against an offense that is led by wide receiver Denzel Mims. The senior has 11 touchdowns and will be looking to put on a show heading in to the 2020 NFL Draft.
Both teams are coming off a heart-breaking Championship Weekend. They were both in play for the final four at kick off. LSU put paid to Georgia’s chances, and Baylor were taken down in overtime by Oklahoma. The Sugar Bowl is their consolation prize.
Last season Georgia fell to defeat against the Big 12 in the Sugar Bowl, losing 28-21 to Texas.
Baylor will be hoping that history repeats itself.
