Washington football may not be in the bowl it was hoping for, but the Huskies have a chance to finish the season strong vs. Boise State.

You usually don’t see a bowl game with two teams projected to appear in the New Year’s Six this early in the postseason, but college football fans have to be excited for the Las Vegas Bowl between Washington and Boise State.

The Huskies (7-5) had a disappointing season, to say the least, but still found a way to make the postseason after losing both Jake Browning and Myles Gaskin. With Jacob Eason coming in, the offense wasn’t expected to miss a beat, but more factors go into contending for Pac-12 titles than just the quarterback spot — the defense changed a lot, too.

Boise State (12-1) is somehow not the highest-ranked Group of Five team which means they were left out of the New Year’s Six picture, but that’s OK. This team has what it takes to be a powerhouse in the Group of Five for years to come.

But that may have to be put on hold in the Las Vegas Bowl.

The Huskies will finish the 2019 season on a high note, and here’s why.

3. Washington dominant outside of Pac-12 play

Believe it or not, Washington was basically untouchable in non-conference play this season, going 3-0 with no game decided by fewer than 26 points.

In fact, the closest game was a 45-19 shellacking of BYU on the road which happens to be the only team Boise State lost to this season. It’s actually kind of surprising that BYU beat Boise State considering the directions the two teams headed in after that game, but the Cougars got the best of the Broncos that day.

Bowl games are far different than regular non-conference regular season games because anything can happen, but you just get the feeling that Washington is looking forward to seeing a team that isn’t from the Pac-12 because they’ve dominated in that regard in 2019.
