Washington football sent Chris Petersen out with a win over his former program. Here are three things we learned from the Las Vegas Bowl victory.
As soon as the postseason calendar was announced for the 2019 college football season, the Las Vegas Bowl stood out as an early gem on the schedule. The game effectively became the Chris Petersen Bowl, as the outgoing Washington coach faced his former team in his final game on the sidelines for the Huskies. Washington sent their coach out victorious in a 38-7 victory over Boise State on the first Saturday of bowl season.
There was also a bit of history to the game itself even before the matchup was revealed. This year’s contest was the last played at the only home it has ever known. Sam Boyd Stadium has served as the Las Vegas Bowl venue since the inaugural game in 1992, and this year marked the final edition for the stadium before the Las Vegas Bowl moves to the new Raiders stadium next season.
We expected to see a tense fight, but it was all Washington in the first half as the Huskies took a 17-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. They eased off the gas a bit in the second half, but the Broncos could never take advantage to narrow the gap.
After a disappointing campaign, Washington sent their coach out on top and prevented his former team from pulling off one more Power Five upset. Here are three things we learned from the Las Vegas Bowl by the Huskies.
