3. Jacob Eason broke through for Washington

Things didn’t always go to plan for Washington quarterback Jacob Eason this season. The former Georgia recruit finally got his chance to take over under center for the Huskies, with Jake Browning graduating after four years leading the offense. It wasn’t always an upgrade from the former leader, but Eason was exactly what Washington needed in Sin City at the Las Vegas Bowl.

In the first half, Eason was nearly perfect. The Huskies quarterback went 16-of-22 for 124 yards and a touchdown. It was a masterful performance that allowed Washington to pad their lead going into the break. Eason was accurate, shrewd with his decisions, quick on his release, and lethal against a Broncos secondary that struggled to contain his targets.

The second half saw Washington refrain from throwing the ball as much as they did in the first half, as they looked instead to grind down the clock and shorten the game from the lead. Eason finished the day with 210 yards and the one touchdown as he completed 22 of his 32 passes.

As he prepares to enter the NFL Draft, Eason put on a strong display to sit as the last memory for scouts as he led Washington to Las Vegas Bowl victory over Boise State. With a strong arm, sound decision-making, and all the prototypical intangibles NFL teams love so much, Eason boosted his draft stock with this bowl victory.
