Monday morning college football thoughts

  • SMU needs to figure it out

I was high on the Mustangs early in the season. They are now 1-22 in their last 23 games against ranked teams in stadiums not named “Gerald J. Ford Stadium”.  If they do get back to the 80s, they need to start winning big games on the road.

The Mountaineers have only lost three games in the past two years. The Sun Belt may not be the best conference in the Group of Five, but they deserve their shot in the Cotton Bowl soon.

  • The Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve in the best Christmas tradition
  • Ohio State-Clemson is not getting the hype it deserves

How is this game not being hyped as a ‘Game of the Century’? These are two of the most evenly matched teams in the history of the college football playoff. Everyone seems to be focusing on the Peach Bowl and how much LSU is going to win by. This game will be one for the ages.

  • Surely Texas cannot pull off another bowl miracle like they did last year, right?
  • Why are Alabama and Auburn playing their bowl game at the exact same time?

Both the Crimson Tide and the Tigers will be kicking off at noon CST on New Year’s Day. If ESPN was smart, it would find a way to separate the games. The only people that care more about an Alabama football game than Alabama fans are Auburn fans. The only people that care more about an Auburn football game than Auburn fans are Alabama fans. You are losing viewership numbers by putting these two games at the same time.

  • Washington State vs. Air Force will be the best bowl game, including playoff
  • Power Five schools remain kings (for now)

Washington steamrolled Boise State in head coach Chris Petersen’s final game, 38-7. This was the first of seven bowl games between the Power Five and the Group of Five and the former has started out strong.
