SEC Football: The best-ever moments of the SEC on CBS
Who should you buy stock in for 2020?
As CBSSports.com analyst Jon Rothstein likes to tell you at the beginning of the college basketball season, you need to buy stock in teams before the season starts. Well, college football never sleeps and now is the perfect opportunity to start buying stock in teams for the 2019-2020 season.
We will track our teams throughout the summer and throughout the season and see if they pay off at the end of the year.
Setting myself a couple of rules, I am giving myself a total of 25 shares to spread out across as many teams as I like. Does this really have any value? No, but maybe one day it will. Another rule will be that I am only allowed to invest in one ‘Blue blood program’ at one time. While that discussion may be up for debate, I think the basic ones are all agreed upon.
Here are the teams I’m investing in going into the offseason.
Alabama: 10 shares
That’s right, I am using most of my capital on Alabama. Think about it. When has Alabama ever been this low? Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have not lost two regular season games since 2010. What did they do after 2010? Go on to win two straight national championships. Buy low, hopefully, sell high.
Kansas State: 6 shares
Head Coach Chris Klieman did a phenomenal job with the Wildcats in year one. Going 8-4 as a first-year head coach is impressive, especially at a program like Kansas State. Coming from North Dakota State, Klieman knows how to do well with low-level recruits. Getting higher level recruits in the Big 12, be on the lookout for Kansas State to play more spoiler next season.
North Carolina: 5 shares
In his return to coaching, Mack Brown somehow got North Carolina bowl eligible in his first season. Not only did he do that, but he was one play away from beating Clemson and sending the entire college football season into oblivion. If there is one thing the Tar Heels have in 2020, it is returning talent. With the ACC being one of the weaker conferences, watch out for North Carolina to make a run in the Coastal.
Tennessee: 3 shares
Everyone loved making fun of Tennessee after starting the season 1-4, but the Vols ended the year hot, winning their final five games. Going a respectable 5-3 in the SEC East, their only conference losses were Georgia, Florida and Alabama. Those were expected. All it would take for this investment to pay off is a win against one of those teams next season. Jeremy Pruitt is doing things in Knoxville.
Georgia Tech: 2 shares
This is a long, long, long term play, but one that I think will eventually play out. Even if it takes a couple of years. It is one thing for a team to switch styles of offense, it is another for a team to switch from the triple option to the spread in one season. Winning three games was impressive for the Yellow Jackets and I expect more in the upcoming years.
