LSU football signed one of the best 2020 recruiting classes in the country and that just means that there’ll be some instant impact freshmen.

Once again, LSU is bringing in one of the top recruiting classes in the country and Ed Orgeron is to thank for that. Not only are the Tigers looking like the national title favorite for 2019, but they will soon be reloading with a top-five class in 2020.

As it stands right now, LSU has the No. 5 class in the country which is also good for third in the SEC, according to 247Sports. They have two five-stars and 12 four-stars signed already and that doesn’t include Lorando Johnson, a four-star cornerback, who has committed but didn’t sign in the early period.

With some key departures this offseason, LSU will have some important positions to fill and some incoming freshmen who could help with that.

Which 2020 early signees will provide a punch right away?

Would it be a recruiting class if LSU didn’t land some of the best talent in the defensive backfield? Last year it was Derek Stingley who happened to be the third-highest rated LSU commit ever and this year it’s Elias Ricks, a product of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., after transferring from Mater Dei in California for his senior season.

Ricks is one of the bigger cornerbacks in the class at 6-2 and 192 pounds and he has the cover skills and speed to be a lockdown guy. He could be the next great defensive back from LSU.

And LSU could utilize him right away with Kristian Fulton leaving. Sure, there’s still Jay Ward, Cordale Flott and Raydarious Jones but Ricks could be right up there with the rest of the young guys.

The five-star is ranked the No. 10 player in the class and the No. 1 cornerback so just imagine him lining up on the opposite side of the field as Stingley — no quarterback is going to want to take to the air against the Tigers anymore.
