The Alamo Bowl has multiple reasons to tune in, but here are three of the top reasons to watch Utah football versus the Texas Longhorns.

In a game that many believed would be a New Year’s Six matchup, at the very least, at the beginning of the season, Utah and Texas will square off in the Alamo Bowl.

Here’s why you need to watch.

3. Only primetime game on New Year’s Eve

The Alamo Bowl is the only bowl game being played at night on New Year’s Eve. There are five total bowl games being played that day, but only the Alamo Bowl is at night.

Out of the 10 schools playing on New Year’s Eve, only two of those schools are ranked in the top 25. Navy is the 23rd-ranked team, they play Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl earlier on in the day, and Utah is the 11th-ranked team.

There are still plenty of good games to watch on New Years Eve, despite only Utah being the only team playing on that day that had a shot to make it to the playoff at the end of the year.

However, besides Utah, there are some still big, national recognize programs playing on New Year’s Eve that will be worth watching. Virginia Tech, Florida State and Texas are three of the schools that had disappointing seasons, but are still widely recognized programs and are all playing on New Year’s Eve.

So the Alamo Bowl will finish off a New Year’s Eve game slate that may have more interesting storylines than actual interesting games. It will be a good set up to the New Year’s Day slate of games that features two games with two top 10 teams playing each other and the other two games have two top 20 teams playing each other.

However, on New Year’s Eve night, you should be tuned into the Alamo Bowl.
