1. How will Utah respond after missing out on the playoff?

Utah is coming off of an 11-2 season. They were one of the best teams in all of college football and this year had the chance to be the program’s best season of all time. With all that said, they end up in the Alamo Bowl, which is still a respectable bowl, but honestly a step down or two from where they wanted and where they deserved to be.

Utah’s only regular season loss of the year was to USC in the fourth game of the year. They lost by a score of 30-23. To say they dominated the rest of the year besides that USC game would be an understatement. They won every game by double-digits the rest of the year besides the game against Washington in which they won by five points.

Besides the five-point win against Washington, the other 10 games they won were all by at least 18 points.

Utah was heading into the Pac-12 Championship with an 11-1 record while dominating the most of their season. It was largely thought around the college football world that if they beat Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship Game that they would be the fourth team in the College Football Playoff. However, Utah had the worst game of its season on that night and ended up going from potentially being into the playoff, to playing in the Alamo Bowl against a 7-5 Texas team.

Utah is a seven-point favorite in the game. The Utes are clearly the better team and had the much better season. They should come out and dominate the game, however, it is fair to question if the disappointment of missing out on the playoff will have any affect on the game at all. Regardless, this is an intriguing matchup to tune in for.
