Utah football is ready for a New Year’s Eve matchup with Texas at the Alamo Bowl. Here are three bold predictions for the Utes vs the Longhorns.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger put a target on his back as soon as he took hold of the microphone following the Longhorns’ upset victory over the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl last season. As soon as the words “we’re back” reverberated around the stadium, Texas had defined their own expectations.

Almost a full calendar year later, one thing is abundantly clear. Texas whiffed. The Longhorns hope to salvage was has quickly become a lost season in the Alamo Bowl against a Utah team which had its’ eyes on a College Football Playoff berth a few short weeks ago.

Kyle Wittingham will not overlook the hobbled ‘Horns. The Utes’ head man is 11-2 in bowl games. History says he’ll have his team ready for a shot at the Utes’ third 12-win season in program history and the first since joining the Pac-12.
