Texas A&M football finished the 2019 season an overall average 8-5. What, or who, were the studs and duds of this year for the Aggies?

The Aggies didn’t have a horrible season by any means, but it wasn’t all that great either. This is a team with a second-year head coach that played one of the hardest schedules in the game this year. Is 8-5 what the Aggies hired Jimbo Fisher for? Of course not. However, there was a lot to build off of.

What stood out this season and what, well, didn’t? Let’s start on the negative side.

Dud: Winning the “big” game

Many Aggies thought that the team would pull together one or two wins from those top-ranked matchups throughout the season. Specifically, preseason polls gave the Aggies a chance at home against Alabama and Auburn. Of course, that isn’t how things went and the Maroon and White fell to Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and was then blown out by LSU to round out the season.

Of course, they did win the Texas Bowl over a ranked Oklahoma State, but that was their only ranked win this season. This is something that the fans expect better of from Jimbo Fisher. Winning the big game will be something that is expected of this team, of this coaching staff- especially in 2020.

Dud: The Offensive Line

Kenyon Green was named to the SEC All-Freshman team for his work on the line, but that is about all that can be said about this unit. The group was up and down all season and that is putting it nicely. In many games, the unit didn’t do enough to allow a running game to be established and the Aggies were among the highest in sacks allowed this year.

That group has to get better in 2020, no questions asked.
