Secondary

Cornerback No. 1: Shaun Wade
Backup: Tyreke Johnson

Cornerback No. 2: Cameron Brown
Backup: Marcus Williamson

Slot cornerback: Amir Riep
Backup: Sevyn Banks, Junior

Safety: Josh Proctor
Backup: Marcus Hooker

With Shaun Wade’s return, the Buckeyes avoid having to replace all four starting members of its secondary. Wade will move outside and the hard-hitting Josh Proctor slides in at safety following Jordan Fuller’s graduation after playing increasingly more throughout the 2019 season. But the second and slot cornerback spots are totally up-for-grabs.

Amir Riep was the Buckeyes’ answer at slot after Wade’s ejection in the Fiesta Bowl, and Cameron Brown played more snaps than Sevyn Banks, so they may have the inside track for the jobs. The former five-star Tyreke Johnson will look to develop behind Wade or perhaps earn a starting role with a good spring.

Malik Hooker’s brother Marcus will be the free safety in Ohio State’s two-safety personnel sets. As for Marcus Williamson, he may be yet another graduate transfer candidate.
