College Football Rankings: Way-too-early Top 25 projections for 2020
By Zach Bigalke
Oklahoma State fell 24-21 in a close Texas Bowl loss to former Big 12 foe Texas A&M, missing the chance for a ninth win to cap the 2019 season. That defeat will in no way keep voters in the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll from viewing the Cowboys as one of the best teams in the country heading into the 2020 campaign. The defense did its part, holding Kellen Mond to only 95 passing yards but giving up 248 yards on the ground to the Aggies.
Dru Brown played his final game in the defeat, going 15-of-28 for 184 yards and two passing touchdowns and adding Oklahoma State’s third touchdown on the ground. The graduate transfer from Hawaii has exhausted his eligibility, but redshirt freshman Spencer Sanders will be back after he recovers from a thumb injury sustained against Kansas.
Oklahoma State will be stacked with experience on both sides of the ball as they lose only seven total from their offensive and defensive two-deeps. The biggest of those losses is FBS rushing leader Chuba Hubbard, though he was held scoreless in Houston. Mike Gundy’s crew opens 2020 with three straight home games against Oregon State, Tulsa, and FCS Western Illinois. They should have no problem getting to 3-0 and consolidating poll position ahead of their Big 12 schedule.
