Washington State football has moved quickly to hire Hawaii’s Nick Rolovich. What should you expect as a Cougar fan with the new regime coming in?

Washington State has filled its Mike Leach-sized hole inside of their program with the hire of Nick Rolovich. The announcement, to be scheduled shortly, shows the Cougs have moved as quickly as possible with signing day rapidly approaching — WSU in a pinch for time.

At the top of the list to excite the fan base with what was left, Rolovich is a home run hire for the Cougars and a perfect replacement for the character that was Leach.

Rolovich is another rising star in the coaching world and one that could potentially be as polarizing as Leach.

The quirky coach that got his upbringing in the coaching world mainly from Hawaii is set to take over the reins on the Palouse and take his first Power Five job. He is coming off of a season where his Hawaii Rainbow Warriors played in the Mountain West title game and took down not one, but two Pac-12 teams in Oregon State and Arizona.

Washington State had an abysmal season this year going 6-7 and losing to Air Force in the Cheez-It Bowl. Leach then bolted after the down year for Mississippi State and now we have Rolovich taking over the reins on the Palouse.

The new fresh blood on the Palouse will be welcomed with open arms as Leach’s tactics were growing stale on the Cougar fanbase. A fanbase that is more than appreciative of Leach’s work on the football program but still has a long way to go to be a Pac-12 powerhouse year in and year out.

New blood doesn’t necessarily mean a new offense, which is a good thing for the Cougars and how they are currently built. More about the offense to come.

Here are three reasons why you should be excited if you are a Cougars fan.
