Despite falling short in their bid to win a second straight national championship, Clemson football had another outstanding season. Here’s the report card.

The College Football Playoff turned six years old this season. The Clemson Tigers have made the playoff five of the six years of its existence.  Suffice it to say, the Tigers have been on quite the run for the last five years. Despite losing in the National Championship Game to the LSU Tigers, this was still an impressive season in Death Valley East.

The Tigers won the ACC title for the fifth straight year. This season in dominant fashion. They dominated the Virginia Cavaliers 62-17 in the conference championship game and gave up only 84 points in conference play.

The man in the mirror proved to be the most formidable opponent for the Tigers during the regular season, and it showed early on. Their offense sputtered against Texas A&M though they weren’t threatened the entire game. It took a goal-line stand on a two-point conversion to escape Chapel Hill with a 21-20 win. They hit the bye week and head coach Dabo Swinney took the tarp off of the ROY bus and did it ever work.

The Tigers came off the bye week on a mission. Clemson went on a six-game tear that included four fifty point games. They gave up fewer than 20 points every game the rest of the regular season on their way to the conference title game. They left no doubt in the title game dominating the Cavaliers from the open.

They came back to defeat the Ohio State Buckeyes in the national semifinal but ran into a buzzsaw in the national title game as they were overwhelmed by the LSU Tigers.

Here’s the final report card for the 2019 season.
